As I write this, my marathon training is done and my bags are packed to go run the marathon. I can't believe it is already time to run the marathon! Training for a marathon in a different country is quite an interesting experience...not that I have ever trained for a marathon in America that is. Most of my long miles were on these roads we nicknamed "the government loop". The reason we call it "the government loop" is because that is where the city government is building all of its new offices. It is a stretch of road that can be anywhere from 6 to 8 miles depending on which side roads you add or take away. I have grown very fond of these roads simply because they are very wide and they practically have no cars on them...which is unheard of in this country. I have had some very interesting experiences on the these roads, some of them include:
- Seeing a man walk his goat...I think the goat was more surprised to see me than I was to see him.
- A dog get hit by a car...not a good day. I saw the dog run away after it got hit, so that is the good thing.
- Many locals staring and gawking at me. I can tell you what they are thinking already...."WOW, a foreigner AND she is running!" After they got over their shock, they would show me a thumbs up and cheer me on.
- I got chased by three dogs. One dog a local man shoed away while on this electric scooter, another decided he was too lazy to catch up with me and the last one took one sniff of me and thought I didn't smell good enough to eat.
Here are some pictures of the roads I ran...

Here is picture of one of the places I stop for water. It isn't quite the local Sheetz station in America, but it does the job...
